Building a Solid Foundation
My first term was an opportunity to learn how municipalities and councils function and the processes, procedures and legislation that govern our work. This enabled me to deliver projects during this term. I'm disappointed that some of the good governance practices we adopted were lost during this term.
Some successes from 2018 - 2022
-
Council lead on changing our designation from urban to RURAL, creating more grant opportunities and increased funding
-
Consultation: Responsible for Metro Woodburning Bylaw and Urban Containment Boundary “Have Your Says”
-
Initiated new Council Code of Conduct, accepted by all of Council
-
Openness: Initiated use of "clause n" which routinely questioned whether items on closed agendas should instead be discussed in public
-
Less secrecy: Continually pushed for reporting out after closed meetings
-
Moved strategic planning into public sessions to allow for resident input (unfortunately, I was outvoted on this term on a similar request)
-
Re-established Emergency Program Committee and ESS
-
Revived volunteer groups including Bear Smart and Block Watch
-
Changed how citizen of the year/distinction are nominated: residents now nominate recipients
Committees
-
Member, Infrastructure Committee
-
Member, Emergency Program Committee
-
Chair, Curly Stewart Scholarship Committee
-
Chair, Bear Smart Committee (volunteer committee, not a Committee of Council)
-

-
